WHAT bands in Chennai have come to call B.A.C,
or the Band Association of Chennai, is an honest
and sincere attempt at changing the music scene
in good old Chennai. Largely the brainchild of
Junkyard Groove, the initiative was started not
only to bring to light some of the immense
talent that seems to be slipping past us
unnoticed, but also to give bands of all kind,
without discrimination with regard to genre or
musical content, a platform from which they can
reach a larger audience.
The purpose of this association is to encourage
live music and musicians to come out with their
original work. The response so far has been
fantastic as there are many bands in Chennai who
are just waiting for an opportunity to display
their talent and creativity. The rock music
scene in Chennai is dull, at best, and at some
points of the year practically non-existent,
which only goes to show that all this talent in
the city has is going to waste. The music scene
in Chennai needed help, and that’s just what the
BAC plans on doing.
So far, 18 bands from Chennai are members of
this association. They have been holding regular
meetings, and discussing the future direction
and objectives. The enthusiasm of the
member-bands is overwhelming and it is the BAC’s
hope that as a forum, it will make a material
difference to the rock music scene in Chennai.
Started by the bands, for the bands, and of the
bands, this association is fast growing.
Hopefully, the word will spread to other cities
and other bands will join in under the same
banner, where everybody is equal.
